St. Camillus / St. Virgilius MVPs of the Week

By Bill Swensen

The St. Camillus/ St. Virgilius basketball program is underway with roughly 150 local kids from 4th grade to 8th grade, playing in the Girls and Boys leagues. Here are some standout players this week.

Savannah Vaccaro – Girls League

Savannah led her team in scoring with 12 out of their 30 points this week. She is a really smooth player, who just makes everything she does on the offensive side of the court look effortless. She never looks like she’s in a hurry, but she still constantly beats the defense to the basket. On the defensive side, it’s a different story. Her effort is obvious. She refuses to let her player beat her and then she gets under the boards and aggressively rips down rebounds. Savannah led her team to a very exciting 5-point win.

Robert Giuseffi – Senior Boys League

Robert scored 21 of his team’s total of 61. He is a dominating player who can singlehandedly take over any game. Nobody goes stronger to the basket than Robert. The young man can leap, and he uses his strength to not be denied. With these talents, he rules on the defensive end as well. Just tearing down rebound after rebound. In the most critical part of the game, Robert stepped up big time. He scored 12 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter and was the key player that held off a strong comeback from the Yellow team.
