St. Camillus / St. Virgilius MVPs of the Week

By Bill Swensen

The St. Camillus/ St. Virgilius basketball program is underway with 150 local kids from 4th grade to 8th grade, playing in the Girls and Boys leagues. Here are some standout players this week.

Maggie Palisi – Girls League

Maggie earned her second MVP of the season, and it was well-deserved. Maggie dominated this game from start to finish. She scored 22 of her team’s total of 36 points. She does everything you can ask of any player. She is non-stop hustle; she rips down rebounds on both ends of the court; she can handle the ball when needed; she sees the open player and dishes off whenever that’s the smart play; and she can score from anywhere. She’s just an all-around great player and this week, she led her team to a convincing 13-point win.

Richie Larkin – Junior Boys League

Richie led his team in scoring by dropping 18 points. Richie is a very unselfish player who is always trying to get his teammates involved, but don’t let that fool you. He can also score effortlessly whenever he decides that’s what the team needs. This was one of those weeks and Richie came through. He has a killer jump shot that he can nail from mid-range or from long-range. His scoring, along with his relentless pursuit of rebounds, was the key to leading his team to an important victory that allowed his team to hold on to first place.

Vincent Giuseffi – Senior Boys League

Vincent led his team in scoring with 22 of his team’s total of 51 points. Vincent is a strong player who is almost impossible to stop once he’s made up his mind to go hard to the basket. He also is an enormous asset on the defensive side of the ball. He protects the rim, provides help on defense all over the court, and he rips down rebounds on both ends of the court. Vincent’s tough and determined play led his team to a decisive victory.
