The Summer Classic is Underway

The 39th St. Francis Summer Classic is now well underway in the Fr. Grogan Memorial Schoolyard and Msgr. Bracken Gym. More than 1,100 players are competing on a record 100 teams ranging from the co-ed 2nd grade division to the Graybeard Young Guns and Legends, who also play at St. Camillus Springman Hall.
The Graybeards have now actually begun their playoffs and will finish with championships on Thursday, July 27.
The 2nd grade division plays Mondays and Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. in the SFDS gym under the direction of Skippy Doyle. 5:45 p.m. games outside have the Boys Grammar Junior on Mondays this year and the Girls Grammar Junior on Tuesdays. Kerry Brady and Grace Leahy lead the Girls while Dee Tubridy and Mike McCann guide the Boys. Tubridy and McCann also head the Boys Grammar Middle group which occupies Court 4 at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Wednesdays. The Boys Grammar Senior division is on Courts 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and some Wednesdays. JoJo O’Grady and Joe Courtney coordinate the group. Marty McManus, Michael Friedman, and John Moran combine to run the Boys High School Division which plays on Courts 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Mondays and some Wednesdays.
Siobhan Fitzgerald and Terence Mullin oversee the Girls Grammar Senior division on Court 3 on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Jimmy Mullin has engineered a tripleheader schedule for the Girls High School division on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and 8:45 p.m.
Bryanne Flaherty has returned again for the Clare Droesch Women’s Open League in the gym on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The Tim Klein Men’s Open League is halfway through the regular season. Games are Thursday nights at 7:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with Division 1 on Courts 1 and 2 and Division 2 on Courts 3 and 4.
